How to install Naviextras Toolbox?

1. How to download and install Toolbox

Naviextras Toolbox enables you to install free updates made available by the manufacturer of your navigation device and to purchase a wide variety of extra contents. Once connected to the Naviextras Toolbox software, you can browse and purchase items that are compatible with your navigation device.

Naviextras Toolbox is quick and easy to install. Before downloading the installer from the Downloads page, make sure that your computer meets the minimum requirements:

  • data carrier with big capacity
  • Broadband internet connection is recommended
  • Windows 7 or newer version
  • OSX 10.8 or newer
  1. After downloading the installer file, double-click on the file to start the installation.
  2. Select the language of the Installation Wizard
  3. To install the software, follow the instructions on the screen.

2. How to start Toolbox

Click on the Toolbox icon on your computer to start the software. (In case of OSX operating system, click on the Toolbox icon in the ´Application’ folder or start it from the Launchpad.) You will be prompted with an offline welcome/connecting screen and Toolbox will try to connect to our server.

If connection is unsuccessful, you can quit or retry the connection.

If connection is successful, you will be asked to connect your data carrier or device to the computer. If your device/data carrier is a valid (supported) model, you will be redirected to the Login and registration screen. If Toolbox was not able to recognize your device/data carrier, please contact our Customer Care team.

3. How to connect your device to Toolbox

  1. Connect your navigation device or the data carrier received with the built-in head unit to your computer:
    1. If you have a PND (portable navigation device), in most cases you will also find a USB cable included in the box. Use this to connect your device to your computer.
    2. NOTE: with some devices, the connection can only be established if the device is in Mass Storage mode. Read the user manual of your device for detailed instructions.
    3. If you have a built-in navigation device, there are two methods for connection:
      1. SD card connection: if an SD card is provided with your Infotainment System, insert it into the SD card-reader of your computer and wait until it is recognized.
      2. If the navigation is located in the internal memory of the head unit, a special tool might be required for successful connection. For further information, please check this list. If a special connection method is needed, you will find further information under your device model.
  2. Make sure your computer is connected to the internet and start Naviextras Toolbox.
  3. NOTE: An internet connection is required for Naviextras Toolbox to verify if any update is available for download, as well as for the download process itself.
  4. After successful connection, Naviextras Toolbox decides whether the connected device is supported and redirects you to the Home screen.

NOTE: this process may take a few minutes.

If Toolbox recognizes the device but does no further actions, you will be redirected to a screen where you are notified that your device is incompatible.

Toolbox might not recognize the device/data carrier at all, which also means that it is not supported. In this case you will remain on the ‘Connect your device’... screen.

How to start using Naviextras Toolbox (connecting navigation device and logging in)?

1. How to register in Toolbox

On the Login screen of Toolbox, you can choose to:

  • log in by clicking on LOGIN,
  • register by clicking on REGISTER,
  • reset your password by clicking on FORGOTTEN PASSWORD - To request a new password click on this button and enter your email address. You will receive an email with a password reset link in it.

To register a new account, choose REGISTER button

  1. Enter your first and last name
  2. Click on NEXT to continue to the next screen
  3. Enter your email address and click on NEXT to proceed. Upon entering the email address, it will be validated.
  4. If your e-mail address is valid (not already registered with Naviextras, and has passed formal checks), you will be prompted to enter and re-enter a password of your choice. The password should be at least six characters long.
  5. The entered password will also be validated. If the password is valid, you will be asked to choose your country of residence.
  6. Scroll down and select your country of residence which is required to issue the appropriate invoice with the proper VAT amount.
  7. Click on NEXT
  8. Enjoy the benefits of signing up for our newsletters! We provide exclusive offers, notifications on new map releases and other content on a regular basis to those who subscribe to Naviextras Newsletters by ticking the box next to ‘Subscribe to newsletter’.
  9. After Newsletter subscription you will be prompted to accept the Terms and Conditions.
  10. Read the Terms and Conditions passage
  11. Click on AGREE if you accept
  12. If you have a valid EU VAT ID and wish to register as a corporate customer, you can request Corporate Customer status after accepting the Terms and Conditions by clicking on I AM A CORPORATE USER. If you would like to register as an end-user, click on CONTINUE.

To log in to Toolbox:

To use the Toolbox (e.g. buy updates or get access to free content) you need to log in. Once Toolbox has recognized your device/data carrier, and you have already registered, you will be prompted to log in.

  1. Enter your email address and password
  2. Click on LOGIN
  3. The email and password are validated and you can proceed to the Home screen or continue the update process.
  4. Click on FORGOT if you have forgotten your password. You will receive an email with a password reset link.

2. How to register as Corporate User (for EU resident customers only)

Corporate Customer registration allows corporate users to purchase items without VAT, who:

  • are based in the EU, but
  • are not based in Hungary and
  • have a valid VAT ID,

If you choose to register as a corporate user, you are prompted to provide your company name and the VAT ID of the company.

Would you like to register as a Corporate Customer or as an End User?

  1. Click on CORPORATE
  2. Enter your Company Name
  3. Enter your EU VAT ID number
  4. The screen ‘Your company data has been succesfully saved. Your corporate status is under review’ will show up. Our Finance department will check the validity of the VAT ID entered. This may take up to 5 workdays). You will receive a feedback by email.
  5. Click on CONTINUE
  6. Enter your invoice address. Click on HOME if the entered data is correct. Click on EDIT if you wish to change your invoice data.

There are 3 possible outcomes of the validation process:

  1. If the VAT ID is valid, you can proceed to provide your invoice address.
  2. If it is not valid, you will be asked to check the VAT ID that you provided again, and informed that if you proceed to purchase updates without a valid VAT ID, the VAT will be charged.
  3. If the VAT ID is rejected, you cannot purchase contents without VAT.

3. Home Screen

After you have successfully registered a new account and logged in, you will see the Toolbox Home Screen where you have the following possibilities:

Available updates’ button shows you the updates that are available for free for your navigation.

The ‘Buy maps’ button enables you to buy additional map updates for your navigation.

The ‘Buy Extra Contents’ button enables you to buy connected services or other extra contents (e.g. POI). You can get more details on available content types on Naviextras website: https://www.naviextras.com/shop/portal

With the ‘Redeem a code’ button, you can redeem a prepaid or voucher code that enables you to download the latest contents for your navigation. To redeem a code please follow the instructions under ‘How to redeem a code in Naviextras Toolbox’ chapter.

The Settings, Help and Language screens can be accessed from any page from any page from the upper left-hand corner.

There are 2 options to choose under Settings:

Manage – allows you to backup, restore, clear cache and manage (remove existing, or add previously removed) contents on your device.

My Account – allows you to see your purchase and device history, invoice details, and to change your email address and delete your account.

Subscribe to Naviextras Newsletter under the My Account/Profile menu and enjoy its benefits! We send special offers, discounts and useful information on navigation map updates and new contents to those who have subscribed.

4. How to manage my account

On the Settings screen, click on the PROFILE button.

On the Profile screen, you can choose:

  • change your email address by clicking on CHANGE EMAIL
  • change your newsletter subscription preferences by clicking on NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIPTION
  • delete your user account by clicking on DELETE USER. In order to delete your account, please follow the instructions described below.

If you choose to delete your account, a warning screen is displayed, asking whether you are sure you want to delete the account.

  1. Click on CANCEL to cancel deleting the account. It will take you back to the previous screen
  2. Click on DELETE to delete your account. Upon deleting your account, you are prompted with an information screen and can click HOME to go back to the Home screen.

5. How to get Help

The Help screen can be accessed from any screen in the Toolbox in the upper left-hand corner.

By clicking on the ‘Help’ button, you can see the Help screen which contains two sub-menus: FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) and Customer Care.

  1. Click on FAQ to access frequently asked questions and topics.
  2. Click on CUSTOMER CARE to access a drop-down list of possible topics with which you can contact our Customer Care Team.
  3. After you select a relevant topic, you will be shown a free text entry box where you can enter your question or issue, as well as attach a file.
  4. Click on SEND button to submit your request. Or go back to the previous screen by clicking on BACK.

Upon submitting the form, our Customer Care team will receive your message, and will handle the issue.

How to get updates in Naviextras Toolbox?

1. How to get a free update automatically if you are entitled for it

Available updates

If you have been notified by the retailer or dealer of your navigation that you are eligible for a free update, then you can get it easily and start using it immediately. To do so, please follow the steps below.

  1. Connect your device/data carrier to your computer, start Toolbox and log in. After this, Toolbox will automatically check if you are entitled for any free updates. If yes, you can download them by following the instructions below. You can also find your free contents if you select ‘Available updates’ from Home screen.
  2. Select the updates you wish to install
  3. Click on INSTALL to install the selected updates. Click on LATER if you want to install these updates later
  4. NOTE: Before installing the free update, it is strongly recommended to make a backup of the contents of your device. Please go to Settings > Manage > Backup your device.

2. How to renew expired subscriptions

You can easily renew your expired subscriptions on ‘Available updates’ screen.

  1. The list of expired subscriptions will be shown to you.
  2. Click on RENEW to renew any of the mentioned subscriptions
  3. Select a subscription period
  4. You will be now redirected to Buy updates screen.

2. How to buy updates

After clicking on the ‘Buy maps’ or ‘Buy extra contents’ option on the Home screen, Toolbox checks the connected device and the availability of different content types.

NOTE: You must be logged in to purchase contents.

Buy maps

  1. After selecting the desired content, you will be navigated to the next page where you can start the purchase by clicking on BUY.
    NOTE: By clicking on MORE INFORMATION you can get additional information about the content, such as coverage, compatibility, etc.
  2. On the next screen you can choose from the offered content types (single update or yearly subscriptions). The price of the content type is also listed next to the content.
  3. Choose a content by clicking on it. You will get detailed information about the chosen content. Click on BUY- xx USD to continue the purchase.
  4. On next screen you see your cart items. Click on CHECKOUT if you want to finalize your purchase or CONTINUE SHOPPING if you wish to purchase additional contents
    NOTE: a warning message will appear if you are trying to purchase a content that you already have on your navigation device.
    If it is the first time you are purchasing content using the Toolbox, you will be redirected to the Invoice address screen.
  5. Check or set the invoice address and proceed to payment by clicking on PAYMENT button.
  6. NOTE: If you have already purchased an item using Toolbox and thus the invoice address is available, you do not need to fill in the form again, but you are only asked to confirm whether the previously entered invoice address can be used. The address is shown on the screen, and you will have the option to accept it YES, to modify it EDIT, or to go back to the Home screen HOME.
    Before payment, you will be prompted to accept the Terms and Conditions.
  7. Read the Terms and Conditions passage and tick the box to accept. Click on SENDING THE ORDER AND PAYMENT to continue
  8. Choose the payment method (card type). Select your language and the country of your bank.
  9. You can be confident that payment details are safe and secure. We do not collect or use your card data, our global payment processing partners process and authorize all card payments.
    You will be redirected to the payment processor’s secure site to complete the payment.
    After a successful purchase you will receive confirmation and you will be able to check the invoice by clicking on SHOW INVOICE. You will also receive the invoice by email. If you have bought connected services, you will be informed that the service is activated and is ready to be used. If you have bought a downloadable map update you will be shown the Download and Install screen. The system will inform you, if there is not enough free space to download the purchased contents. In this case, please click on LATER and you will be redirected to Home screen. Under ‘Settings’ menu, you have the option to remove/delete contents to free up space. If there is enough space,
  10. Click on INSTALL to get the purchased product installed immediately.
  11. On the progress bar you can follow the progress of the installation. This step may take longer depending on your internet connection speed. You will be informed when the installation is finished.
    NOTE: you can choose to install the purchased content at a later point of time. If you click on the CANCEL button, you will be redirected back to the Home screen, where the ‘Available Update’ button will be active. You can install the purchased content from here anytime.
    The download process can be interrupted if one of the following occurs:
    • There is a problem with your internet connection; You can retry the process or contact your internet service provider)
    • There is no more free space available on your device or data carrier; You can manage, delete content in the Settings menu)
    • An error occurs; You can try again the process, or alternately contact our Customer Care Team through the Help menu)
    • If you abort the download process.
    In all cases, if the process is cancelled, you will be redirected to the Home Screen.
  12. Click on EXIT button,
  13. Safely remove the device/data carrier from your computer, and start using it in your vehicle. The navigation system will automatically start using the updated data when switched on.

3. How to buy multiple map updates and additional products in a single purchase (Shopping Cart)

You can add more items to your cart and pay for them altogether during the checkout process. When you choose a product, you are automatically redirected to the Shopping Cart screen.

At this point, you can check the item(s), prices and the VAT applied in your cart. You can remove items from the cart on this screen by clicking on the x next to the item.

At this point you can either:

  1. Continue shopping by clicking on CONTINUE SHOPPING: you will be redirected to the screen where you can select further items to be purchased.
  2. Proceed to checkout with the contents of the cart PROCEED TO CHECKOUT: you will be redirected to the Invoice Address screen. You can edit the existing data using the EDIT or enter your address if you have not yet done so already. Click on PAYMENT to see the summary of your purchase.
  3. Tick the checkbox to accept the Purchase Terms and Conditions and continue to checkout.
  4. NOTE: the SENDING THE ORDER AND PAYMENT button will remain inactive until you do have ticked the checkbox to accept the Terms and Conditions.
  5. Click on SENDING THE ORDER AND PAYMENT to proceed to payment.

4. How to check my purchase History

You can access ‘My Account’ menu from the Settings menu in the upper left-hand side bar. Here you can check your Purchase history, Invoice address and Profile information. Click on HISTORY to view your Purchase history.

  1. Click on MY MAPS – to view all installed contents (free and paid);
  2. Click on MY PURCHASES – to view all purchased contents. You can also download the invoices from here.

If you have only one invoice:

You will be redirected to a screen which contains detailed information about the transaction for which the invoice was generated. It contains the transaction ID, details of the purchased contents (region, version), date and price. You can download the invoice for the selected transaction by clicking on DOWNLOAD, or go back to the previous screen by clicking on BACK on the upper left-hand side bar.

If you have multiple invoices (due to multiple past purchases):

You will be redirected to a screen which contains the list of the available transaction IDs. You can select an item from the list and you will be redirected to the information screen which contains the details of the selected invoice. You can download the invoice for the selected transaction by clicking on SHOW INVOICE, or go back to the previous screen by clicking on BACK.

How to make or restore a backup of the navigation device?

How to manage data Backup and Restore

From time to time, it is useful to backup the contents of your navigation system to avoid losing any data in case of a hardware error or accidental data loss. This guide explains how to make a backup of your navigation system and how to restore a backup, should this be necessary.

We suggest you create a backup in the following cases:

- Right after you acquire your navigation
- Before using Toolbox to update your navigation and its content
- After updating your navigation

In order to create a backup, please follow the instructions described below:

  1. In the Manage menu, please click on the BACKUP YOUR DEVICE
  2. Enter a name for your backup, so that you will be able to identify it later on and click BACKUP
  3. Wait until the Toolbox is creating the backup. This can take several minutes depending on the size of your contents
  4. After the backup has finished successfully, click on HOME to return to Home screen.

In order to restore a backup that was created previously, please follow the instructions described below:

  1. In the Manage menu, please click on the RESTORE button
  2. Toolbox will check if there is a backup available that can be restored.
  3. Choose a backup from the list by selecting the box next to it.
  4. Click on RESTORE.
  5. NOTE: you can restore your device only if you have previously created a backup.
  6. Please wait until the download and install process is finished. This can take several minutes.
  7. Click on EXIT to quit Toolbox or HOME to go back to the Home screen.

How to redeem a code in Naviextras Toolbox?

How to redeem a code

You can redeem a voucher, a prepaid or a request code from the Home screen menu.

  1. Click on REDEEM A CODE and enter the code in the dialog box.
  2. Click on USE SCRATCH to proceed. The Toolbox will validate the entered code.

If the code is valid, the server will check the code type, and redirect you to the appropriate screen where you can see what content your code is valid for. Click on SELECT and you will be redirected to a screen where you can choose to DOWNLOAD the content or go back to HOME.

If the code is not valid, a warning message is displayed.
